St. Ludmila School, established in 1914, is located in a well established neighborhood on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. It is located close to Interstate 380 and near the heart of Czech Village. The consolidation between St. Ludmila, St. Jude, and St. Patrick Schools into the Holy Family School System in 1994 provides all students with expanded educational offerings and resources that were not available at each individual site before the consolidation. St. Ludmila Elementary Center serves children in grades kindergarten
through fourth, includes a preschool (ages 3-4) with all day
child care. The school enrollment averages 125 students in the
K-4 program, with a student-teacher ratio of 16:1. It is small
enough to be personal and yet large enough to provide a variety
of learning experiences. The curriculum basics include religion, reading, language, spelling, handwriting, math, science and social studies, plus computer, vocal music, instrumental music, physical education, art, guidance, resource and talented and gifted. St. Ludmila Center provides an environment where a wide range of experiences conducive to learning can take place. The students attend liturgy once a week. The students in each grade level take turns experiencing the planning of masses on a rotational basis. In addition the upper grade students also participate as servers and cantors. The sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are celebrated in grade 2. Students in grades 3-4 celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation together at various times during the year according to the church calendar.
The Holy Family Board of Education encourages and welcomes the participation of parents/guardians in all school programs and events. Extra educational materials and equipment is provided through projects sponsored by a very active Parent Association. |
